Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a very gentle approach to resolving chronic stress and trauma held in your body.
Somatic Experiencing (SE) enhances the capacity of your nervous system to recover from overwhelming and painful experiences by summoning and supporting your body's own resources, re-establishing natural defense mechanisms and protective boundaries, orienting to the environment and attending to physical sensations.
Your body can process and complete important biological responses to stress and trauma allowing your nervous system to develop more flexibility and resilience.
SE was developed by Dr. Peter Levine through 5 decades of study and expertise in stress physiology, psychology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics. The evolution of Dr. Levine's work can be seen in his books, Waking the Tiger (1997) and In An Unspoken Voice: How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness (2010)
